WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf program announced its 2016-17 schedule on Friday (June 24), featuring nine regular season tournaments prior to postseason play. The Demon Deacons will play four events in the fall and five regular season events in the spring, including co-hosting the Bryan National Collegiate.
"We are excited about our upcoming schedule," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "We will be competing against the top teams in the country and will be seeing some new venues. We are very excited about going to Hawaii in the spring. It will be our first opportunity to play in Hawaii and I know that the students are looking forward to it. We also added the Mercedes Benz in Knoxville and the Liz Murphey in the spring. It is a balanced, competitive schedule that should prepare us for the postseason."
The Demon Deacons will play four events in the fall, beginning with the Mercedes Benz Championship in Knoxville, Tenn. The other three events, the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill and the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, are holdovers from last season.
The spring season will once again begin in February with the Northrop-Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. After a return trip to the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., in early March, the Deacs will play their first event in Hawaii at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in mid-March. That event is held at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, located on the grounds of the Marine Corps Base Hawaii on the island of Oahu and is one of the highest rated military courses in the world.
Wake Forest will co-host the 20th annual Bryan National Collegiate with UNCG at Bryan Park in Greensboro from Mar. 31 to Apr. 2. The Deacs will close out the regular season the following week at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.
The ACC Championship returns to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, Apr. 14-16. This year's NCAA Regionals will be hosted by East Carolina, Ohio State, Texas Tech and New Mexico before the NCAA Championship will take play at Rich Harvest Farms in suburban Chicago.
