WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's basketball team departs Monday for an international trip to the Bahamas. The tour, which runs Aug. 15-20, includes three exhibition games for the Demon Deacons in Nassau.
The Deacs open play in the Bahamas on Tuesday, Aug. 16, as they play the University of Toronto at 10 a.m. The next two days they will play Bahamian club teams, CTG Knights on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m., and The Real Deal Shockers on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. All three games will have live stats and a live video stream on YouTube. The games are part of the annual BTC Summer of Thunder exhibition series at the Sir Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium. The event runs throughout August and matches collegiate teams against teams from the Bahamas. Other schools competing in this year's event include UNLV, Central Michigan, Wyoming, Florida Gulf Coast and Missouri State, but NCAA schools are only permitted to play exhibition games against non-NCAA competition while overseas.
NCAA basketball teams are allowed to take an international tour to play exhibition games once every four years and are permitted 10 practices to prepare for the trip. While in the Bahamas, the team will stay at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort.
The trip will mark the Demon Deacons' third trip to the Bahamas. Wake Forest went on an international tour to the island nation in September, 2006, winning a pair of games. The team also competed in the Bahamas during the 2013-14 regular season with a sixth-place finish at the Battle 4 Atlantis.
