Wake Forest Wins Battle at Louisville, 3-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Wake Forest collected their second consecutive ACC win after defeating Louisville, 3-1, Friday night.
From the first serve, this match would prove to be a nail-biter as neither team led by more than four points the entire match. Louisville (5-8) took an early lead in the first set but Wake Forest (6-8) refused to back down and fought for every point. Kylie Long led both squads with nine kills and a .533 attack percentage in the first set to keep the Demon Deacons in the match. However, the Cardinals would come out of the first set on-top, 25-23.
The second set was another cat-and-mouse affair that involved 17 ties and 6 lead changes. ACC Freshman of the Week and Louisville, Ky.-native Caroline Rassenfoss led the Deacs' with six kills in the set. The set required an extra point, but a service ace from Caroline Wolf sealed the set, 26-24, Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons came out of the break on fire, jumping to an early 6-2 lead over the Cardinals. Louisville would not back down, pulling the score to a tie at eight, but the Deacs maintained control throughout the set. The Deacs ultimately took the set, 25-23.
The fourth, and ultimately final, set was another battle. Louisville lead a majority of the set until back-to-back attack errors from the Cardinals gave the Demon Deacons the lead, 19-18. The Deacs scored eight of the final nine points to take the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
Kylie Long led the Deacs with 22 kills and a .283 hitting percentage on the night. She now leads the team with 220 kills this season.
The Demon Deacons finish up their conference roadtrip Sunday at Notre Dame. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. and can be viewed on ACCN Extra.
