Demon Deacon Trio Advance at ITA Carolina Regional

DURHAM, N.C. – The Wake Forest trio of Bar Botzer, Christian Seraphim and Julian Zlobinsky continued their marches towards a fall title Sunday (Oct. 15) as the trio advanced at the ITA Carolina Regional.
Botzer won a pair of matches in the singles draw to advance to the semifinals while the tandem of Seraphim and Zlobinsky won their lone match of the day to move into the quarterfinals of the doubles draw.
In his first match of the day, the 25th-seeded Botzer faced fellow 25th seed Juan Estevarena of Charleston. The native of Tel Aviv, Israel quickly punched his ticket to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
Awaiting Botzer in the quarterfinals was third-seeded and 48th-ranked Robert Kelly of North Carolina. After Botzer took the opening set, 6-2, the two were knotted at 5-all in the second set when Kelly was forced to retire from the match, securing his place in the semifinals. Botzer will face the 15th seed in Alex Favrot of Clemson in the semis.
Seraphim and Zlobinsky were forced to three sets in their Round of 16 match Sunday from the duo of Copeland and Savarino of UNCW, the No. 9 seed in the field. The Demon Deacon duo quickly took the opening set, 6-2, before dropping a 6-4 decision in the second. In the 10-point tiebreaker, Seraphim and Zlobinsky prevailed, 10-6, to set up a quarterfinal match against another No. 9 seed in Quiroz/Teixeira of Winthrop.
One round of singles play and two of doubles play are set for Monday, with the finals scheduled for Tuesday.
