WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest volleyball team was downed, 3-0, by Miami on Sunday afternoon at LJVM Coliseum.

The Hurricanes (11-3, 5-3 ACC) took the first set with ease, but the Demon Deacons (10-10, 2-6 ACC) battled in the second, losing, 28-26. Miami reestablished control in the third, cruising to a 25-13 third-set victory and clinching the match at 3-0.

Kylie Long led the Deacs with 12 kills. The senior outside hitter also delivered a team-best .243 hitting percentage. Sophomore Caitlyn Della pitched in with eight kills and led the team with four total blocks. Once again, Madeline Holt led Wake Forest with 31 assists. The freshman setter also delivered a career-high three block assists. Fellow freshman Bronte Zlomek recorded a career-high five digs.

The Hurricanes jumped on the Demon Deacons early, as they won the first eight points of the match and built an insurmountable, 14-2, lead in the first set. Although Wake Forest made a late rally to cut its deficit to 22-16, Miami closed out the set at 25-18. The Hurricanes hit .400 in the first set.

The Demon Deacons responded with a strong second set, as neither side led by more than two points for the entirety of the set. Wake Forest's defense picked up, holding the Hurricanes to a .233 hitting percentage. Trailing, 24-23, Della's kill extended the set past 25. However, the Hurricanes also fended off a Wake Forest set-point and proceeded to take the hard-fought set at 28-26, which gave them a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Miami capitalized on its momentum in the third set, as the Hurricanes raced out to a 10-3 lead they never relinquished. With the Deacs reeling, Miami closed out the set and the match on Sylvia Hernandez's service ace.

Overall, the Hurricanes hit .351, compared to Wake Forest's .104. The Demon Deacons did have six service aces, while Miami totaled five.

Up next, Wake Forest embarks on its longest road stretch of the season, a four-match trip that begins next Friday, Oct. 20 with a 6:30 p.m. matchup at Virginia Tech.
