GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest senior Connor Johnstone was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Johnstone tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a season-opening 5-0 victory over Nicholls on Friday.
It marked the Demon Deacons' first complete-game shutout since Charlie Mellies tossed one at Florida in 2006. It also marked the first time Wake Forest has allowed one hit or less since Brian Holmes pitched a no-hitter in 2012.
In his 9.0 innings, Johnstone struck out a career-high six batters while walking just two. He also forced the Colonels to ground into three double plays.
Wake Forest is back in action Tuesday, opening a nine-game homestand by taking on UNCG at 4 p.m.
