Deacs Rally to Defeat Princeton 5-2

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team finished its weekend with a 5-2 victory over Princeton inside the Jadwin Gym on Sunday, Feb. 5.
The Demon Deacons (6-2) were able to rally to victory after losing the doubles point to Princeton (3-3). Playing on the No. 2 doubles court, Chandler Carter and Emma Davis were first to walk off after a 6-2 loss. Next to step off on the third doubles court was Samantha Asch and Joanna Zalewski. The duo tied up the doubles score 1-all by winning 6-2.
Playing at No. 1 doubles, Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko fell 6-4, as Princeton took the doubles point. Going into singles play down 1-0, the Deacs were able to tie the match up thanks to No. 61 Emma Davis. Davis was victorious, 7-5, 6-0, on the second singles court. No. 33 Guerin earned herself a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory playing at No. 1 singles.
Once the match turned in the Deacs favor they never looked back. Next to come off the singles court was Carter, playing on the fifth court, coming out victorious, 6-4, 6-2. The match was officially clinched for Wake Forest when Asch stepped off after topping her opponent 7-5, 6-2.
Ulayshchenko and Zalewski both went to a third set to decide their match. Ulyashchenko won her first set 6-1 before dropping the second set, 6-3. Princeton was able to capitalize in the third by winning 6-2. Zalewski found herself battling back after dropping the first set, 6-3. She was able to complete the comeback by winning the second and third set, 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
The Deacs are back in action at home on Saturday, Feb. 11. Wake Forest is set to play William & Mary and Liberty in a pair of dual matches.
