The Matchup

Last Time Out
• Wake Forest won its third straight ACC series to start the season, rebounding from an extra-innings Friday loss to win on Saturday and Sunday to clinch the series.
• Demon Deacon starting pitchers turned in three straight quality starts. Parker Dunshee (ND, 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 12 Ks), Donnie Sellers (W, 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 Ks) and Connor Johnstone (W, 6.2 IP, 2 ER, 7 Ks) set the tone on the mound.
• Jake Mueller (6-for-12, HR, six runs, four RBIs) and Gavin Sheets (7-for-15, home run, two doubles, seven RBIs) posted multi-hit efforts in every game of the weekend.
Wake Forest Storylines
• The Demon Deacons have entered the national rankings for the first time since 2012, and are included by Baseball America (24), Collegiate Baseball (28) and NCBWA (29).
• Following the season-opening trip to Houston, the Deacs were hitting just .194 as a team and had only three players hitting better than .215. In the 21 games since, Wake Forest is hitting .341 as a team, with 99 extra-base hits.
• That surge has increased the team average to an ACC-best .320, while Wake Forest leads the nation with 45 home runs. The Deacs also rank in the top 20 in slugging, runs, hits, doubles, average, walks and OBP. Six starters are hitting better than .320 - Ben Breazeale (.409), Jonathan Pryor (.402), Jake Mueller (.357) Stuart Fairchild (.343), Johnny Aiello (.337) and Gavin Sheets (.324).
Opponent And Series History

• App State has already played 10 games against ranked teams, including a win over then-No. 14 Louisiana-Lafayette.
Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest is on the road for seven of the next eight, including a trip to Miami this weekend.
