The Matchup
• No. 17 Wake Forest closes out its home stretch with a midweek game against Charlotte on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest earned its first series sweep of the season, taking down Notre Dame in all three games over the weekend.
• Stuart Fairchild was named the Player of the Week by the ACC, Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. He finished last week with a .500 average, four home runs, three doubles and 14 RBIs as the Deacs went 5-0. Against Notre Dame, he homered on both Saturday and Sunday.
Wake Forest Storylines
• The Demon Deacons are a consensus top-25 team this year for the first time in more than a decade. Wake Forest is ranked by Baseball America (17), Collegiate Baseball (17), USA Today Coaches (17), D1Baseball (18), NCBWA (18) and Perfect Game (18).
• Wake Forest picked up its 25th victory of the year in its 35th game. That's the fastest the Deacons have reached 25 wins since doing so in 31 games in 2002, also the last time hosting an NCAA Regional.
• Three different Demon Deacons have double-digit home run totals: Gavin Sheets (13), Johnny Aiello (13) and Stuart Fairchild (11), with Bruce Steel (nine). The last time Wake Forest had at least three players in double figures was 2001: Jamie D'Antona (17), Carlos Brackley (14), Cory Sullivan (13) and Corey Slavik (10).
Opponent And Series History
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series over Charlotte, 42-27-1. The teams met earlier this year, with the game starting at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte on March 21 and being finished on Charlotte's campus the next day, as the Deacs won 13-4 behind a 4-for-4, five-RBI effort from Logan Harvey.
• The 49ers enter the game with a 20-16 overall record and are coming off a weekend sweep at Western Kentucky, including a pair of extra-inning victories.
Looking Ahead
• The Demon Deacons hit the road for five straight, beginning with a three-game ACC series at No. 3-ranked Clemson. Then, Wake Forest travels to UNCG and Davidson next week before heading into a break for final exams.
