DAVIDSON, N.C. -- No. 17 Wake Forest took advantage of three home runs and five doubles in a 12-6 victory over Davidson at Wilson Field on Wednesday night.
The Demon Deacons (30-13) picked up their 30th win, the fastest to 30 for the program since also doing so in 43 games in 2006.
Johnny Aiello blasted two home runs for his third-career multi-homer game, also adding a two-run single to finish with five RBIs.
Jake Mueller added three doubles while Stuart Fairchild went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Wake Forest is now off for a week for final exams, so all three regulars in the weekend rotation received work. Parker Dunshee started and struck out five in 3.0 scoreless frames. Chris Farish (0.2 innings, strikeout), Donnie Sellers (1.1 innings, strikeout) and Colin Peluse (1.0 inning, strikeout) added scoreless outings in relief.
Aiello and Keegan Maronpot both homered in the fourth to put Wake Forest in front, 2-0.
The Wildcats (21-17) answered back with a pair of two-out RBIs in the fifth to knot the score at 2-2.
Wake Forest plated six runs in the sixth thanks in part to a trio of Davidson errors. Fairchild's RBI double and Aiello's two-run single capped off the scoring for the Deacs, who took an 8-2 lead.
Davidson chipped away with a solo homer by Justin Lebek in the sixth and three doubles in the seventh, which brought home three runs to make the score 8-6.
The Deacs pulled away for good with an Aiello two-run bomb to straightaway center in the eighth and a Fairchild two-run double in the ninth.
Wake Forest returns to action May 5-7, playing host to Boston College for a three-game ACC series.
