The Deacs Hold Off Louisville to Win 4-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 28 Wake Forest women's tennis team topped Louisville 4-2 this afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons (16-6, 6-4 ACC) took the doubles point from the Cardinals (13-9, 2-8 ACC) after wins on courts two and three. Courtney Meredith and Alexis Franco cruised to a 6-1 victory on court No. 3. The pair of Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko were defeated 6-2, tying the doubles score 1-1. Chandler Carter and Emma Davis were able to clinch the doubles point for the Deacs with a 6-4 victory on the second court.
Wake Forest was able to hold off the Cardinals after a slow start in singles play. Playing on court No. 3, Ulyashchenko was topped 6-0, 6-2. Louisville took the lead from the Deacs as Carter fell 6-0, 6-2 on the fourth court. Playing No. 2 singles, Davis topped her opponent 6-4, 6-0 to tie the match at 2-2.
No. 45 Guerin regained the lead for the Demon Deacons thanks to a 6-4, 6-0 victory on the first court. On the fifth court, Luisa Fernandez found herself in a three set thriller for the deciding match for the Deacs. After dropping the first set 7-6 (7), Fernandez rallied in the second and third set to a 6-4, 6-3 victory. With the win, Fernandez clinched the match for Wake Forest.
As the match was called, Meredith found herself all tied up at one set a piece. Meredith dropped the first set 7-6 (9) and was able to take the second set 7-6 (4).
The Demon Deacons return to action on Thursday, April 13 as they take on Duke. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
