The Matchup
• No. 15 Wake Forest closes out the regular season non-conference slate with a 6 p.m. game against Appalachian State on Tuesday.
• The Demon Deacons are playing at Keeter Stadium, home of the American Legion World Series, in Shelby, North Carolina. Wake Forest uses the game to honor Jim Horn, a member of the 1955 College World Series team, who was a member of the Shelby community and worked relentlessly to bring the event to Shelby permanently. Jim passed away in 2015 at age 79.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest matched program records with its seventh ACC series win and 17 ACC wins, taking 2-of-3 from Florida State for the first series win in Tallahassee since 1993.
• Bruce Steel was named ACC Co-Player of the Week after hitting three homers and two doubles last week, including a two-homer, five-RBI effort in Sunday's series-clinching win.
Wake Forest Storylines
• The Deacons are a consensus top-25 team for the first time in more than a decade. Wake Forest is ranked by Baseball America (16), NCBWA (19), USA Today Coaches (20), D1Baseball (21) Perfect Game (21), and Collegiate Baseball (23).
• Wake Forest has locked up a top-five seed at the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship. The Deacs can finish anywhere from third to fifth, and will battle Virginia and Clemson for the No. 3 spot.
• For the first time in program history, five different Demon Deacons have double-digit home run totals: Gavin Sheets (18), Johnny Aiello (15), Stuart Fairchild (12), Bruce Steel (12) and Keegan Maronpot (10). The last time Wake Forest had at least four players in double figures was 2001.
Opponent And Series History
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series by a 40-14 margin and claimed a meeting in Boone in March, 5-4. In that game, Bruce Steel broke a ninth-inning tie with a game-winning solo homer.
• The Mountaineers are 19-32 overall but have dropped eight of their last nine games. Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest wraps up the regular season with an ACC series vs. Pittsburgh from Thursday-Saturday.
