ATHENS, Ga. – The 2016-17 Wake Forest men's tennis season came to an end Sunday as Christian Seraphim and Skander Mansouri's run ended at the NCAA Doubles Championship. The Demon Deacon duo were edged by Oklahoma's Andrew Harris and Spencer Papa 4-6, 6-3, 12-10 in a semifinal match at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Wake Forest pair, the tournament's No. 4 seed, took advantage of an early service break to win the opening set 6-4. The Sooner team answered in the second set, using an early service break of their own to take the set 6-3 and force a third-set superbreaker.
In the decisive 10-point tiebreaker, the Oklahoma pair took an early 5-2 lead before the Deacs won five straight points to claim a 7-5 advantage. Mansouri and Seraphim had a pair of match points, at 9-8 and 10-9 that were saved by the Sooner duo before they took advantage of their first match point to win the breaker 12-10.
Seraphim and Mansouri were the third Demon Deacon pair to reach the NCAA doubles semifinals, matching the feat of Christian Dallwitz and Mark Greenan in 1988 and Mariusz Adamski and Todd Paul in 2007.
