Wake Forest Volleyball Tops Georgia Tech, 3-1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind 14 kills from junior Caroline Rassenfoss, Wake Forest (7-12, 2-5 ACC) defeated Georgia Tech 3-1 (25-20, 11-25, 25-23, 25-13) on Friday night at Reynolds Gym.
Both sides were well-matched as the Deacons tallied 45 kills on the night and the Yellow Jackets posted 44, but Wake made timely plays to take the victory at home. The Deacons also posted a season- high 14 aces, as Olivia Saunders, Alysia Nielson and Hailey Brooke McFadden led the way at the service line with three a piece.
Rassenfoss paced the Deacons at the net with 14 kills, while Saunders added nine, four of which came in the fourth set. As a team, the Deacons notched twice as many blocks as their opponent with 12, led by Saunders with six stops.
The first set features a point for point matchup until a 6-0 run by the Deacons gave Wake Forest the upper hand with a 21-18 lead. The Deacons took the 1-0 lead in the match finishing the first set winning four of the last six points.
The Yellow Jackets (12-8, 1-6 ACC) rallied back to even the game at 1-1 as Georgia Tech held the Deacs to just four kills while Tech posted a match-high 14 kills in the frame. Wake Forest battled back in the third set to go back on top with a match-high 15 kills.
With a 2-1 lead, the Deacons capped the match in commanding fashion, tallying 13 kills and just two miscues on 22 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Defensively, Wake held Tech to seven kills and a .049 attack percentage.
Up next, Wake Forest continues ACC play at home as it plays host to Clemson on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. The Deacons will cap its three-match home stand with a midweek meeting against Duke on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 6:30.
