Andy Roland Elevated to Women’s Tennis Associate Head Coach

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team and head coach Jeff Wyshner announced the promotion of Andy Roland to associate head coach on Monday afternoon.
"Andy is an exceptional coach and his commitment to the players and to the program is unflinching," Wyshner said. "I have been fortunate to rely on him for over 10 years between our time spent at Akron and here at Wake Forest. I could not be more thrilled for him to have earned this sign of respect and esteem from the University."
Roland joined the Wake Forest coaching staff in 2010 after previously working under Wyshner in a similar role at the University of Akron. He has served as the assistant coach for the Deacons for the past nine years and has helped the program to many team and individual accomplishments.
In the past five seasons with the program, Roland has helped the Deacons to more than 80 team wins. Last season, the Deacons recorded 20 wins for the first time since 2002, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
In 2015, he was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Assistant Coach of the Year for the Carolina Region after the Deacons notched their best season since 2009 with 14 wins.
During his tenure as assistant coach, seven individual players and 10 doubles teams have been nationally ranked by the ITA, including two top-10 doubles teams in Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert (No. 7) and Emma Davis and Chandler Carter who entered this season ranked fifth.
"Andy's ability and commitment to helping good players become great players is one of the building blocks of our program and is critical to the success we've had over the past few years," Wyshner said. "I think that this recognition will help those outside of our program see how incredibly valuable Andy is to this team."
