Alistair Johnston and Tater Rennhack both scored in Wake Forest's fifth shutout win of the season.
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Top-ranked Wake Forest earned its fifth shutout of the season, blanking South Carolina, 2-0, at Stone Stadium on Tuesday night.
Alistair Johnston netted the game-winner for the second-straight game for the Demon Deacons (14-1-0), while Tater Rennhack added the first goal of his career in the second half.
Andreu Cases Mundet and Dominic Peters combined for the shutout in goal. Cases Mundet made four saves, while Peters added another in his collegiate debut.
Johnston put the Deacs on the board in the 36th minute. Isaiah Parente sent in a cross from the right side and Johnston delivered a far-post shot to beat the keeper.
In the 78th minute, Aristotle Zarris drew the Gamecock (3-9-0) keeper out of net before dishing off a pass to Rennhack for the finish into an open net.
Twenty-one different Deacons saw playing time in the victory. Wake Forest concludes non-conference play in the regular season with a perfect 9-0-0 record.
Wake Forest wraps up the regular season with back-to-back ACC games, beginning with a trip to No. 6 Virginia on Saturday at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
