Wake Forest Falls to Virginia Tech, 3-2.

BLACKSBURG, VA- Wake Forest volleyball (8-14, 3-7 ACC) fell in five sets to Virginia Tech on Friday night at Cassell Coliseum. Sophomore outside hitter Myca Mitchell posted a team-high 17 kills for the Deacs, just one off her career-high of 18.
Caroline Kuhn and Caroline Rassenfoss combined for 17 kills, while Madeline Holt recorded her third consecutive double-double with 11 digs and 39 assists. Wake Forest was more efficient at the net with 52 kills on 161 attempts for a .149 hitting percentage while Virginia Tech posted a .116 hitting percentage. However, the Hokies made timely plays to take the five-set victory.
Both teams went back and forth as Virginia Tech took the first set, 25-21, but the Deacons rallied to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 decision in the second frame. After posting 10 kills and a .091 hitting percentage in the first set, Wake Forest recorded its best set of the match with 13 kills and .385 attack percentage.
The Hokies jumped back in front with a narrow 25-23 win in the fourth set. The Deacons answered back with a 30-28 come from behind win in set four to send the match to a winner-take-all fifth frame. In the fourth set, the Hokies went on several runs, but a late five-point run from the Deacs pulled Wake Forest within two. The Deacons took a 24-23 advantage following a few Hokie errors and a kill from Mitchell. Virginia Tech continued to answer back until a kill from Kuhn and an error from Virginia Tech clinched the fourth set win for the Deacs at 30-28.
The home court advantage helped the Hokies to the victory as Virginia Tech rolled to a match-high .375 hitting percentage and held the Deacs to just four kills in the final frame.
Up next, Wake Forest will return home to host No. 6 Pitt and Virginia on Friday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 28. Friday's match is set for 5:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra and Sunday's match is slated for 1 p.m.
