Kyle Holcomb and Omir Fernandez scored for the undefeated Demon Deacons.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Top-ranked Wake Forest stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over UNCG on Tuesday night at Spry Stadium.
The Demon Deacons (11-0-0) received goals from Kyle Holcomb and Omir Fernandez, while Andreu Cases Mundet posted his fourth shutout between the posts.
The Spartans (4-6-0) were even in shot attempts at 10-10, but were only able to put two on frame, both of which Cases Mundet stopped.
Holcomb scored the game-winner in the 11th minute. Bruno Lapa took a shot, but Holcomb deflected it past the keeper to the back of the net.
Lapa picked up his second assist in the 54th minute. Joey DeZart found Lapa open at the top of the box, and Lapa dished it left to Fernandez for a far-post one-timer to double Wake Forest's lead.
"It was a sloppy performance but it's still a 2-0 win," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "A sign of a good team is when you play poorly and still find a way to win, and we did that tonight."
Sam Raben was the only field player on the pitch for the full 90 minutes as the Deacs are also preparing for a short turnaround on Friday at Syracuse.
"These midweek games are great for experience. The guys that maybe didn't play as much on the weekend and are fresher came in and brought some energy," Muuss said. "I thought we took our foot off the pedal and we let up more shots than we wanted to, but we still got a shutout."
