Bayley Feist scored two goals to lead the Demon Deacons in the 3-0 victory.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Seniors accounted for all three goals as Wake Forest honored its graduating seniors before defeating Syracuse, 3-0, at Spry Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Bri Carney netted the game-winner, while Bayley Feist scored a pair of goals as well to lead the Demon Deacons (8-7-1, 4-5-0 ACC) over the Orange (3-14-0, 0-9-0 ACC). Another senior, Nonie Frishette, saved the only shot on goal she faced to earn the shutout.
Frishette's only save was a big one. On a counter-attack, Meghan Root sent a shot towards goal, and Frishette leaped and got just enough of the ball to tip it off the crossbar and keep Syracuse off the board.
After the game went into the halftime scoreless, the Deacs broke open for three second-half goals.
At the 55:00 mark, Abby McNamara sent a ball wide to Estelle Laurier, who sent in a cross to Carney for a tap-in goal in front of the net for Carney's first goal of the season.
Feist then added back-to-back goals. In the 67th minute, she dribbled around a defender into the right side of the box before unleashing a far-post effort past the keeper for the goal.
She scored again in the 89th minute. Ryanne Brown found Feist wide open in the middle of the field. Feist dribbled to 25 yards out to send another laser of a shot just under the crossbar.
With the victory, Wake Forest moves into a three-way tie for eighth place in the ACC. The top eight teams qualify for the ACC Tournament. The Deacs have one regular season game remaining, traveling to No. 3 North Carolina on Thursday. The game will be played at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary at 6 p.m.
