WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team holds the lead after a rain-shortened first day of the Landfall Tradition. The Demon Deacons are at 4-over par late in the first round as weather halted play Friday afternoon at the Country Club of Landfall.
The first round will conclude Saturday morning, followed by the second round of the tournament.
In a tournament that features seven of the top 20 teams in the nation, the No. 14 Demon Deacons held a three-shot lead over No. 5 Duke when play was suspended.
Three Demon Deacons ended Friday in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard. Letizia Bagnoli is even par through 15 holes and Emilia Migliaccio is even par through 13 holes to tie for fourth place. Vanessa Knecht is also in the top 10, as she is T-9th at 1-over through 14 holes. Siyun Liu is at 3-over and Mai Dechathipat is 14-over late in their first rounds.
"The young ladies showed a lot of determination in the weather," said head coach Kim Lewellen. "It was a long, hard day with stopping and starting several times. I'm very proud of their perseverance. We look forward to finishing our round tomorrow and having good weather for the last two rounds."
The Landfall Tradition runs through Sunday in Wilmington.
