Davis Qualifies for Oracle ITA Fall Championship

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. – Senior Emma Davis earned another win at the ITA All-American Championships on Friday and earned a spot in the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships to be held in Surprise, Ariz., Nov. 7-11.
Following a 6-2, 6-4 win on Thursday over No. 23 Veronica Miroshnichenk, 16th-ranked Davis advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Gabriela Knutson, the fifth-ranked player in the country and the three-seed in the main draw. The win automatically qualified Davis for the Fall National Championships next month.
In the quarterfinals, Davis dropped 6-4, 6-0 to Maria Mateas of Duke. The Cohasset, Mass., native was the first Wake Forest women's tennis player to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw since Bea Belik in 2001.
Three-seeded and fifth-ranked Davis and doubles partner Chandler Carter earned a bye in the first round of the doubles main draw, but fell 8-5 on Thursday. The duo bounced back on Friday, notching an 8-4 consolation win over No. 19 Sophie Whitle and Graciela Rosas of Gonzaga. Davis and Carter will advance in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
