Women’s Tennis Sweeps Doubles at Bulldog Invitational

ATHENS, GA. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team continued tournament play in Friday at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia. Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Illinois and Georgia are the four participants in the tournament.
In singles, the Deacs faced off against Vanderbilt in a dual-match style of play. Anna Ulyashchenko earned the first win of the day for the Deacs with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over No. 79 Amanda Meyer. Freshman Peyton Pesavento followed, taking down Emily Smith 6-1, 6-3.
Due to inclement weather, play was moved indoors for the remainder of Wake's singles matches. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Joanna Zalewski picked up a three-set victory, defeating Lauren Gish, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4 to cap the singles actions for the Deacs.
Wake Forest swept Illinois on the doubles courts. Chandler Carter and Peyton Pesavento fought to an 8-7 (2) victory on court one in their first match together. Mary Meredith and Eliza Omirou faced Emilee Doung and Jaclyn Switkes and defeated the duo 8-6.
Zalewski and Ulyachshenko picked up an 8-1 victory on court thee while Alexis Franco and Saby Nihalani earned an 8-7 (11) tiebreak win over Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz.
Wake forest will continue play at the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday at 10 a.m.
