Wake Forest scores a season high 73 points in annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team dropped an offensive shootout Wednesday (Nov. 28) evening, falling to Indiana, 87-73, in the Deacs' annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
The 73 points are a season high for Wake Forest (3-4), and the 45.1 field goal percentage is the second-best performance of the season. As a team, the Deacs hit a season-best nine three-pointers.
Elisa Penna scored a team-high 22 points, her second 20-point performance of the season, and Gina Conti added a season-high 18 points on a career-high four made triples. Ivana Raca was in double figures with 17 points while Ona Udoh brought in a game-high 11 rebounds.
Wake Forest and Indiana (6-0) traded shots over the opening 20 minutes of play, as each team shot 61 percent from the field in the first half. The Hoosiers built their lead to as large as eight on two occasions in the first quarter, but Wake Forest would respond each time and cut the deficit down one late in the period.
After Indiana outscored the Deacs by two in the second quarter to take a seven-point lead into the break, the Hoosiers pulled away early in the third quarter. Over the first 3:15 of the third quarter, Indiana outscored Wake Forest 11-1, building a 17-point lead. Late defensive pressure from the Deacs allowed Wake Forest to pull within 10, but Indiana went 4-for-4 from the line to close out the game.
Wake Forest returns to action on Sunday, December 2, playing host to St. John's at 1 p.m.
