Cungu Advances at Charlotte Invitational

Rrezart Cungu won a pair of matches Saturday to advance to the semifinals in the top flight of play

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore Rrezart Cungu won a pair of matches Saturday as three Demon Deacons took to the courts at the Charlotte 49ers Fall Invitational.
After play on Friday was postponed due to inclement weather, Cungu, Ryan Mueller and Charles Parry began play Saturday morning.
Cungu, playing in the A1 draw, picked up a pair of straight sets victories over Hugh Knapp of UNCG (6-4, 6-3) and Axel Fries of Davidson (6-3, 6-1) to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Cungu will face South Carolina's Thomas Brown.
Mueller, competing in the A2 draw, dropped an opening round match to Nico Grewe of UNCG (6-3, 7-5) before rebounding in the consolation draw with a 3-6, 6-1, 3-2, retired decision over Sirawit Daosaengsawang of UNC Asheville. Parry began play in the C1 draw with a three-set loss to James Massie of UNC Asheville (5-7, 7-6(7), 6-3) but was able to bounce back with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Logan Blaser of UNCG.
Competition in Charlotte will conclude on Sunday
