Volleyball Storms Back to Upset Miami, 3-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Wake Forest volleyball (9-18, 4-11 ACC) snapped a six-match losing streak with a thrilling five-set (16-25, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-10) victory over Miami on Friday night in Reynolds Gym.
Caroline Kuhn and Caitlyn Della each had strong performances with 13 kills, a career-mark for Kuhn, while Madeline Holt notched 45 assists and Hailey Brooke McFadden grabbed 11 digs.
Miami (13-9, 9-6 ACC) jumped out to a 2-0 match lead with a 25-16 victory in the first frame and a 25-20 decision in the second set. The Canes hit a match-high .417 in the opening set and followed with a solid .200 in the second frame, totaling 29 kills while holding the Deacs to just 17 kills in the first two sets.
Wake Forest rallied in the third set to get on the board with a 25-20 win over the Canes. Kuhn and Della posted five and four kills, respectively to pace the Deacons. Della hit .500 in the frame and added three assisted blocks to go with her four kills. The Wake Forest offense hit .370 in the third set to get the momentum rolling for the black and gold to cut Miami's lead 2-1.
The Deacs remained hot offensively, posting a match-high 18 kills and .371 in the fourth set. Kuhn and Holt led the charge at the net with nine combined kills, half of the Deacons' fourth set kill total. The Deacs went on a 4-0 run early in the set taking a 9-4 lead and forcing the Canes to call a timeout. Miami regrouped to tie the set and even take a short lead. The teams continued to trade points back and forth, but a kill from Madeline Holt and an attack error from the Canes gave the Deacs the 26-24 set four win to even the match at 2-2.
Miami jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the fifth and final set as Wake Forest called a timeout. The Hurricanes continued to lead in the frame, up 10-6, but nine unanswered points from the Deacons sealed the comeback victory. Olivia Saunders recorded two late kills and Paige Sebesta added three to power the Deacon offense late in the match.
Wake Forest returns to Reynolds on Sunday at 1 p.m. to face Louisville in the final home match of the season. Katie Moore and McFadden will be recognized for Senior Day.
