Opening statement...
"Congrats to Danny and his team for playing as well as they did today. They are a team that is improving. They are long and athletic, and they played well today. As far as us, it was not our best performance on either end of the floor. For some of our young guys, this was the first time they faced a team that was as long and athletic and I think at times they panicked and were overwhelmed. At times the youths lack of athleticism showed."
On being down players and how the team is responding...
"We are low numbers right now, that's a fact. Obviously, you know I'm not a zone guy, and we had to play one today because we have a couple guys in foul trouble. I asked the coaches if any of them could get on the floor to help us out because we were down in numbers. However, we talked in the locker room and I told our team this, if it bothers you right now about how you played individually as a team, be encouraged. Because if it didn't, that would be the problem. I told them to remember this feeling, because the only way you don't feel this way is if you are willing to do hard work."
Wake Forest Head Coach Danny Manning
Opening Statement...
"I thought tonight we came out. I really didn't know what to think about the game to start, Jaylen Hoard threw up two times before the game started. He went out there and he played, I think for us the start was good for us defensively. I thought we did a good job of contesting shots, I thought we could have done a little bit better job of rebounding the basketball. We gave up some contested shots but we need to finish some possessions. We got better as the game went on in that regard. I thought offensively we had a lot of different guys contribute in terms of scoring in double figures. This is probably not the normal Charlotte team that we would have been facing, they've got a couple of their guys banged up. I thought our guys and played with good energy and good attention to detail."
On Jaylen Hoard...
"[He was sick] on the court. I didn't notice it until the last of final warmups when they were out there on the court cleaning it up. I asked him if he could go and he said he would be alright. He had a good second half."
On halftime message to Jaylen and the team...
"We said the same thing we said at the beginning of the game, [Jaylen's] someone who needs to come out fired up at all times with high aggression. You've got to be aggressive, offensively and defensively, Rebounding the basketball, running the floor, posting up. I thought tonight, for the first time in some time, that our big guys really did a good job of finding the post positions and finding the fouls. We don't always do that, that's something that we talk about, but we need to continue to work and seal the post and try to get angles."
On Isaiah Mucius...
"He likes to shoot. He's not bashful. You know what, he is shooting the ball at a high clip. He plays with effort. He plays with energy. He scores on all three levels and for us, I love his energy, because he brings something to the table every day with that energy. He's a freshman, but these guys are also getting used to teams game planning against him. Today, going into the game, we wanted to make sure that we made (Jon) Davis work and take the ball out of his hands as much as possible. Teams do that to us for certain players, you just have to make your adjustments and make your reads."
