Deacs Head to Sunshine State
The No. 1 Wake Forest men's tennis team heads south for a pair of matches in the Sunshine State as the Demon Deacons face Miami and Florida State in ACC action.
The Deacs will face Miami at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 23, before heading to Tallahassee on Sunday for a 1 p.m. first serve against Florida State. Sunday's match will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons set a new program record for best start to a season, improving to 13-0 behind a 4-0 victory over No. 11 USC and a 6-1 decision against No. 18 Duke.
Wake Forest got off to hot starts in both matches by winning the doubles point. Neither doubles point needed all three courts, with Wake Forest winning on Courts 1 and 3 in both contests. On the year, Wake Forest has taken the doubles point in 10-of-13 matches.
Deacs In The Rankings
The Demon Deacons, after being ranked No. 1 to begin a season for the first time in program history, remain the top team in the weekly ITA rankings. They have been the No. 1 team in the USTA rankings for the last five weeks as well.
Individually, five singles players and three doubles teams are ranked in the latest ITA rankings. The singles rankings are highlighted by Petros Chrysochos (No. 7) and Borna Gojo (No. 29), while the Chrysochos and Skander Mansouri team up to form the No. 2 doubles team in the country.
Scouting the Opponents
Miami is 8-6 on the year and 0-3 in ACC play. The Hurricanes are led by Christian Langmo, who is currently ranked 90th in the ITA singles rankings.
Florida State is 19-1 on the year and 3-0 against ACC foes. The Seminoles feature three players ranked in the singles polls, led by No. 19 Guy Iradukunda.
Both teams have been stout at home, with Miami going 7-0 on the year while Florida State boasts an 11-0 mark in home duals.
Next Time Out
The Deacs remain on the road to take on North Carolina on Wednesday, March 28. First serve in Chapel Hill is set for 3 p.m.
