The Matchup
Wake Forest returns to ACC play, traveling to North Carolina for a three-game set Friday-Sunday on ACC Network Extra.
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons dropped a non-conference game to area rival Elon on Tuesday, 10-9.
Johnny Aiello, Bobby Seymour and DJ Poteet led the offensive effort with two hits apiece.
Rayne Supple was the only Deacon pitcher out of seven to record a scoreless outing, tossing the final 2.0 innings of the game.
Wake Forest Storylines
Wake Forest has continued its recent ACC success, winning 10 of the past 13 conference series dating back to 2017, opening 2018 with series victories over No. 3 Florida State and No. 11 Louisville.
The Demon Deacons are a youthful squad in 2018, having started six different freshmen position players, while five rookies have seen time on the mound. Out of the position players, 100 starts have been made by freshmen, compared to 55 for sophomores, 70 for juniors and none by seniors.
On the mound, approximately two-thirds of innings pitched have been by underclassmen. None have been thrown by seniors, 78.2 by juniors, 106.2 innings by sophomores and 40.2 frames from the freshmen.
Head coach Tom Walter became the third skipper in program history to record 250 wins at the helm of the program. He accomplished the feat at Notre Dame on March 25.
The Deacs are coming off their second Super Regional appearance, finishing a game away from the College World Series. Wake Forest finished the year with a 43-20 record and set program records in ACC wins (19), ACC series wins (eight), All-ACC honorees (nine), MLB Draft picks (eight) and home runs (106).
Opponent And Series History
North Carolina enters the weekend with a 15-10 overall record, including a 5-4 mark in ACC play. In the league, the Tar Heels swept Pittsburgh and dropped two-of-three to Florida State and Louisville.
Michael Busch leads the country with 38 RBIs, also ranking atop the team with seven homers and third with a .333 average.
The Tar Heels lead the all-time series by a 160-126-3 margin. Wake Forest, however, has won four straight in the series, including a three-game sweep in 2016.
