The Matchup
• Wake Forest returns to ACC play this weekend with a three-game series at No. 5 NC State on ACC Network Extra.

Last Time Out
• In a day off from final exams, the Demon Deacons defeated Radford, 5-1, behind a strong pitching effort on Tuesday.
• Six Wake Forest pitchers combined to strike out 12 Highlanders while walking just one. Tyler Witt earned the win with 3.0 shutout innings in relief, while Antonio Menendez, Chris Farish, Morgan McSweeney and Rayne Supple also tossed scoreless outings.
Chris Lanzilli went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Deacon offense, while Jake Mueller added two hits, a walk and a stolen base.

Wake Forest Storylines
• The Demon Deacons are a youthful squad in 2018, having started six different freshmen position players, while five rookies have seen time on the mound. Out of the position players, 201 starts have been made by freshmen (46.5 percent), compared to 87 for sophomores (20.1 percent), 144 for juniors (33.3 percent) and none by seniors.
• Wake Forest's 201 starts by true freshmen are the second-most in the country, behind only Arizona State (227). Mississippi State is next-closest with 173. Wake Forest is the only program to have five freshmen with 30+ starts each. By comparison, the Deacs totaled only 25 starts from true freshmen all season in 2017.
• On the mound, approximately two-thirds of innings pitched have been by underclassmen. 2.0 have been thrown by seniors (0.5 percent), 161.0 by juniors (37.1 percent), 188.1 innings by sophomores (43.3 percent) and 83.0 frames from the freshmen (19.1 percent).

Opponent And Series History
• NC State is Wake Forest's oldest rival, as the teams met in Wake Forest's first baseball game on April 14, 1890. The Wolfpack have the edge over the Deacs all-time, but Wake Forest won the series in Winston-Salem last year.
• In 2018, NC State is hitting .299 as a team with 71 homers, and five different hitters have double-digit homers. The Wolfpack won their first seven ACC series before dropping its first to North Carolina.

On Deck
• Wake Forest closes the regular season with four-straight home games, starting with High Point on Tuesday night.
