CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Rachel Kern and Elijah Shalaway earned All-ACC honors on the final day of competition at the 2018 ACC Track and Field Championships Saturday.
Kern earned First Team All-ACC honors after finishing second in the women's javelin while Shalaway earned a spot on the second team with a fifth-place finish in the men's javelin. The Demon Deacons garnered five conference awards over the course of the three-day competition.
In her first ever conference championship, Kern, a freshman, threw a personal-best 45.21m (148-4) on her fifth attempt to secure a spot on the podium. Entering the competition, her best was a 45.13m (148-1) mark at the Virginia Challenge.
Shalaway threw a 65.09m (213-6) on his fourth attempt en route to his fifth-place finish. It was the second-best throw of his career, just behind the 66.41m (217-10.5) he threw at the Penn Relays earlier this season. The Second Team All-ACC honor is the second conference award of his career.
Also in the field for the Demon Deacons, Max Adams finished ninth overall in the discus with a season-best throw of 51.58m (169-3). Adams won his flight and was the only member of his flight to make the nine-man final.
On the women's side, Janese Lynch finished 14th in the discus with a career-best mark of 43.05m (141-3).
