Kupcho to be Honored at Honda Award Ceremony

LOS ANGELES – Wake Forest women's golfer Jennifer Kupcho will attend the 2017-18 Honda Collegiate Women's Sports Award ceremony on Monday night in Los Angeles. The 2018 winner of the Honda Award for women's golf, Kupcho is one of 12 sport winners in attendance as the Honda Cup will be presented to the nation's Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.
The awards ceremony, held at the Galen Center on the campus of USC, will be televised live on CBS Sports Network from 9-10 p.m. ET.
When she won the Honda Award for women's golf, Kupcho became the first Wake Forest women's golfer to be named a national player of the year. She became the fourth Demon Deacon athlete to win a Honda Award, joining Bea Bielik (tennis, 2001-02), Kelly Doton (field hockey, 2003-04) and Kelly Dostal (field hockey, 2004-05).
Kupcho capped the best season in Wake Forest history with her victory at the NCAA Championship. Her junior season featured four victories and two other top-5 finishes as she finished under par in a school-record eight events. Her scoring average of 70.60 set a school record, breaking the previous mark of 70.61 that she set during her sophomore season. Kupcho tied her own school 54-hole scoring record with a 15-under performance to win the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, which included a school-record 8-under 64 in the second round.
Joining Kupcho at the ceremony will be the other 11 Honda Award sport winners: A'ja Wilson (South Carolina, basketball), Ednah Kurgat (New Mexico, cross country), Charlotte Veitner (Connecticut, field hockey), Christine Peng-Peng Lee (UCLA, gymnastics), Sam Apuzzo (Boston College, lacrosse), Andi Sullivan (Stanford, soccer), Rachel Garcia (UCLA, softball), Simone Manuel (Stanford, swimming & diving), Arianne Hartono (Ole Miss, tennis), Maggie Ewen (Arizona State, track & field), Rhamat Alhassan (Florida, volleyball).
