WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Two members of the Wake Forest women's tennis team were recognized by the ACC on Monday (June 25), as Emma Davis and Eliza Omirou were named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Team.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Davis, a business and enterprise management major, led the Deacs with a 30-14 singles record and an overall doubles record of 30-13. The rising senior posted a 22-8 record at the No. 1 singles position during the dual season en route to being named an All-ACC First Team selection this past spring.
The native of Cohasset, Massachusetts was selected to compete in both the singles and doubles draws at the NCAA Championships, advancing to the Round of 16 in the doubles tournament with partner Chandler Carter. Davis finished the year ranked 28th nationally in singles play and 11th in doubles.
Omirou had a stellar freshman campaign, finishing 22-16 on the year in singles and posting a 17-10 record at the No. 2 singles position. In doubles, Omirou finished 27-12 playing primarily with Mary Caroline Meredith.
Omirou, a native of Nicosia, Cyprus, was twice named the ACC Freshman of the Week, winning the award on February 27 as well as on April 17.
As a team, Davis and Omirou led the Deacs to the second round of the NCAA Team Championship for the first time since 2007 following a victory over Arizona State in the tournament's opening round. The team finished the season 20-14, marking the first 20-win season since 2004, and ranked 27th in the country.
