The Demon Deacons earned a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Brad Dunwell and Omir Fernandez in the last preseason tune-up.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- No. 5-ranked Wake Forest closed out the exhibition portion of its schedule with a 2-0 victory over Loyola Maryland at Spry Stadium on Saturday night.
Brad Dunwell finished off a cross from Logan Gdula from six yards out in the 28th minute to put the Demon Deacons on the board, while Omir Fernandez put away a 75th minute penalty kick to seal the win.
The Greyhounds, who are the preseason favorites in the Patriot League, didn't get a shot off until 10 minutes into the second half as Wake Forest held a 13-3 advantage in shots overall.
Wake Forest again utilized its entire roster as 24 Deacons saw game action.
Andreu Cases Mundet played the first 70 minutes in goal and was not forced to make any saves. Dominic Peters made one save in relief while Andrew Pannenberg also saw time between the posts in the clean sheet.
A pair of freshmen led the attacking efforts as Kyle Holcomb and Aristotle Zarris recorded a team-high three shots apiece. A 16th-minute header from Holcomb appeared headed right under the crossbar, but a jumping save by Loyola keeper Chase Vosvick kept it out of the net.
The Deacs now turn their sights to the regular-season opener and No. 2 Indiana, as the Hoosiers come to Spry Stadium on Friday night.
