WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's tennis team was well represented at the Winston-Salem Open (ATP 250), as three current members and one alum took to the courts at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The Deacs' run came to an end Monday evening with Borna Gojo's defeat in the first round of the main draw.
Gojo, making his first-ever appearance in the main draw of an ATP 250 event, drew Ryan Harrison, ranked 57th in the latest ATP World Rankings. The rising junior dropped the opening set by a 6-2 margin before pushing Harrison in the second set. Tied 4-all, Harrison was able to break Gojo's serve and then hold for the 6-4 victory.
Prior to Gojo's appearance, Petros Chrysochos, Skander Mansouri and Julian Zlobinsky all appeared in the singles qualifying draw.
Mansouri nearly pulled off the upset in the first match of the day, forcing Horacio Zeballos to three sets. After dropping the first, 6-4, Mansouri bounced back with a dominating 6-2 victory in the second set to push things to a third and final set. The recent graduate was unable to complete the upset, falling 6-4 in the final set.
Chrysochos drew the No. 1 seed in qualifying, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Radu Albot. Zlobinsky, making his ATP 250 debut, dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Luke Saville. Both matches were played indoors due to inclement weather.
