WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women's basketball coach Jen Hoover announced Tuesday (Sept. 18) the team's nonconference schedule for the 2018-19 season while the league office announced the complete ACC schedule for the upcoming year.
"I am very excited about the strength of our schedule this season," said Hoover. "We constantly strive to play the very best programs nationally and this year is no different. Our trip to Italy was a great opportunity to grow as a team on and off the court and help prepare us to play in the ACC, the best conference in the country."
The Demon Deacons will play a 29-game slate this season, 17 of which will be played at home inside the LJVM Coliseum. The Deacs will compete in 13 nonconference games in addition to the 16-game ACC schedule.
Fifteen of Wake Forest's 29 contests this season will come against teams that advanced to the postseason a year ago, including contests against reigning NCAA champion Notre Dame, NCAA semifinalist Louisville, WNIT champion Indiana and WNIT runner-up Virginia Tech.
Eleven of Wake Forest's 16 conference games will appear on ACC Network Extra, with the remaining five scheduled to be broadcast on RSN. Broadcast information for the team's nonconference schedule is yet to be determined.
The Deacs open the season with three consecutive home games against Towson (Nov. 6), NCAA qualifier Mercer (Nov. 9) and Richmond (Nov. 11). Wake Forest will then hit the road for the first time on November 18, traveling to take on VCU.
Following a quick trip home to face Xavier (Nov. 21), the Deacs will travel in-state to face East Carolina on November 24. Indiana, who claimed the 2018 WNIT Championship, comes to the LJVM Coliseum on November 28 for the team's annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Deacs will remain at home to face St. John's (Dec. 2) before making the quick trip to Charlotte on December 5.
Wake Forest returns home for back-to-back games, as Maryland Eastern Shore will come to town on December 8 before Wake Forest plays host to James Madison in the Deacs' yearly School Day game on December 17. Last year, the Demon Deacons set a program attendance record of 10,011 in the game, coming from behind to defeat Charlotte.
The Deacs head to Myrtle Beach to compete in one game at the Carolinas College Challenge, facing South Carolina State on December 19. Wake Forest returns home to round out nonconference play as well as the 2018 calendar year on December 30 against Norfolk State.
To open ACC play, the Demon Deacs play a pair of home games on January 6 and 10 against Miami and Boston College, respectively. Wake Forest hits the road to take on Notre Dame (Jan. 13), who claimed the National Championship this past year, and North Carolina (Jan. 17).
Louisville, who advanced to the National Semifinal a year ago, comes to Winston-Salem on January 20, leading into the Deacs' first trip to the Triangle to take on Duke (Jan. 24).
The Deacs have three of their next four games at home, facing NC State (Jan. 31), Clemson (Feb. 7) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 10), while making a trip down to Tallahassee to face Florida State (Feb. 3).
Following an off Thursday in the conference calendar, the Deacs are on the road to face Syracuse (Feb. 17) and NC State (Feb. 21). Wake Forest returns to Winston-Salem to close out the home portion of the schedule, facing Duke on February 24 before taking on Pittsburgh (Feb. 28) on Senior Day. The Deacs close out the regular season on the road at Virginia Tech on March 3.
The 2019 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament returns to Greensboro for the second consecutive season, taking place March 6-10.
