WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Behind Bayley Feist's second goal of the season and a rock-solid performance from Nonie Frishette in goal, Wake Forest women's soccer upset No. 5 Penn State, 1-0, Sunday night at Spry Stadium.

Frishette finished with 12 saves in goal for Wake Forest (3-1-1), the most in a single game in at least 20 years and just six off the program record of 18. Celebrating her Senior Night, Feist scored the game-winning goal in the 13th minute, her second goal of the season.

The Deacs now hold a 4-1-0 all-time record against the Nittany Lions (3-2-0), including a perfect 3-0-0 mark at Spry Stadium. The last time the programs met, No. 10 Penn State defeated No. 24 Wake Forest in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2017.

Looking to avenge last year's second round loss, Frishette set the tone early, making her first save of the night in just the 7th minute.  Feist countered with a shot on target in the 9th minute, but the Penn State keeper made the grab.

Feist struck again in the 13th minute when after receiving the ball from a throw in, she cut through a defender to fire a shot from five yards outside the top of the box. The ball sailed over the keeper's gloves and into the back of the net, putting the Deacs up 1-0.

The Deacs nearly doubled the lead in the 24th minute. After earning an indirect free kick inside of the box, Peyton Perea fired a shot that was deflected by the Nittany Lions' keeper before Feist took a shot off the rebound that was blocked by a defender.

After a strong defensive showing from both teams and an additional four saves from Frishette, the Deacons took their 1-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Frishette once again made an early save to set the tone for the ensuing defensive battle. She then made four-consecutive saves between the 63rd and 68th minute to surpass her previous career high of seven saves.

Ashley Frank almost had the insurance goal in the 75th minute, but the ball cruised just past the keepers' reach and left of the goal. She had the same shot just a minute later, but the ball also went just outside.

The Demon Deacons, led by defenders Oliwia Wos, Kate Ravenna, Madison Hammond and Vicky Krug, clamped down on defense as time continued to wind down. Despite Penn State holding possession for much of the final 10 minutes, the Nittany Lions were limited to just two shots. Estelle Laurier also made a great defensive move, defending a botched cross and forcing a Penn State corner kick. The Nittany Lions were unable to find the equalizer as the Deacons took the 1-0 victory.

Penn State held a 14-7 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal. Feist led the way for the Deacs with three shots, two of which were on target, while Perea and Ryanne Brown also had shots on goal.

Up next, the Demon Deacons hit the road to take on another top-10 opponent in No. 7 South Carolina this Thursday at 7 p.m.
