COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Wake Forest women's soccer fell to No. 19 South Carolina, 2-0, Thursday night at Stone Stadium.

The South Carolina (5-1-0) offense attacked early with a pair of shots while the defense clamped down on the Demon Deacons (3-2-1). The Deacs were held without an opportunity until the 32nd minute when a shot from Giovanna DeMarco sailed high.

The Gamecocks took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute off a header from Jyllissa Harris, served by Selma Sol Magnusdottir, on a corner kick.  South Carolina nearly doubled its lead in the 39th minute, but Nonie Frishette was there to make her first save of the night.

Taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, the Gamecocks also led the Deacons 5-1 in shots in the first half, including a 2-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Bayley Feist took the Deacs' second shot of the night in the 52nd minute but the ball went wide of the net. South Carolina countered with a shot from Lauren Chang from outside the box, but Frishette was there to make her second save of the evening.

However, the Gamecocks managed to double their lead in the 63rd minute. Elexa Bahr broke away from defenders and played a through ball from Jyllissa Harris to put South Carolina up 2-0.

Frishette then tallied back-to-back saves in the 67th and 74th minutes, her third and fourth of the night to end the South Carolina offense. Ryanne Brown and Hannah Betfort each had chances to put the Deacs on the board in the 65th and 75th minute, respectively, but both were grabbed by the Gamecocks' keeper.

South Carolina finished with a 14-6 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal and 7-2 lead in corners.

Frishette recorded four saves in Thursday's contest while all six Wake Forest shots came from different Demon Deacons. DeMarco, Feist, Brown and Betfort registered shots along with Ashley Frank and Madison Hammond.

Up next, the Demon Deacons wrap up non-conference play at Spry Stadium against Longwood. That game is set for 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9.
