WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The women's tennis team and head coach Jeff Wyshner announced the 2018-19 schedule on Wednesday afternoon.
"It is a very difficult schedule," Wyshner said. "But after having the most successful team in over a decade last year, returning our entire starting line-up and adding three very good freshmen, we want that level of challenge in the regular season so we can be prepared to play our best both in the ACC and, hopefully, NCAA Championships."
The Deacons will open play in the fall with a series of road tournaments debuting Sept. 14, at the Hall of Fame Invitational hosted by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The ITA will also host the Riviera All-American Championships, Carolina Regionals and the 2018 Oracle National Fall Championship.
Furman, Tennessee and Georgia will all host invitationals throughout the fall that the Deacs will travel to.
The spring season will get underway as Wake Forest hosts the College of Charleston and Liberty before the ITA Kick-Off weekend in Columbia, S.C. The Deacons will have a four-match home stand in February and will face its first conference opponent of the season against Clemson on Feb. 17.
Tournament play rounds out in Montgomery, Ala., at the annual Blue Gray Classic, Feb. 22-23., where five of the eight teams competing finished last year in the top-30.
March and April feature tough ACC match ups, highlighted by home meetings against Boston College, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, NC State and Pitt. The Deacons will face the remaining conference opponents on the road. The ACC Conference Championship will be played in Cary, N.C on April 17-21, before the first rounds of the NCAA Tournament in May.
"Playing every team in the ACC definitely gives us as challenging a schedule as you can face in the country," Wyshner said. "That alone gives us three top-five opponents, five top-20 opponents and 10 top-50 opponents."
