THE MATCHUP
• Wake Forest closes out home tournament play as it hosts the Wake Forest Invitational, Sept. 7 and 8 at Reynolds Gymnasium.
• Elon, Georgia Southern and Akron will make the trip to Winston-Salem, N.C., to compete in the tournament.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Deacons are still on the hunt for their first win of the season after dropping three matches at the Ameritas Players Challenge hosted by then No. 5 Nebraska.
• Wake Forest fell in four sets to Santa Clara, and was swept by the defending national champion Huskers and the Ohio Bobcats.
• Junior Caitlyn Della has earned All-Tournament team honors in each of the first two tournaments so far this season.
QUICK HITS
• Head Coach Bill Ferguson returns for his third season at the helm of the program.
• The Demon Deacons return 14 players from last year's squad, led by seniors Hailey Brooke McFadden and Katie Moore, and welcome five freshmen to the club.
• Junior Caroline Rassenfoss is the team's returning kill leader as she tallied 271 kills last season.
• 2018 will mark the first season for Wake Forest Volleyball in the newly renovated Reynolds Gymnasium. Reynolds has been home for the Deacons since 1971. The team spent the previous two seasons in the LJVM Coliseum while th renovations were underway.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
• Elon enters this weekend's tournament undefeated with a 7-0 record for the first time since 2009.
• Kam Terry leads the charge at the net with 83 kills on the season.
• The senior outside hitter recorded her 1,000th career kill in the opening weekend of play against Charlotte. She was tabbed CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week after her performance last weekend at the Phoenix Classic.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
• The Eagles make the trip to Winston-Salem with a 1-6 overall record, with its lone win coming against North Dakota State on Sept. 1.
• Carly Turner has recorded a team-high 62 kills (2.30 k/s).
• The series between the Deacons and the Eagles is tied up at 2-2. The last meeting was in 2016 as Georgia Southern earned the 3-1 victory.
SCOUTING THE ZIPS
• Akron enters the Wake Forest Invitational with a 4-2 mark.
• Alexis Adleta and Kayla Gwozdz account for 47 percent of the Zips' kills with 76 and 72, respectively.
• The team's two losses came against Eastern Washington and Maryland. Maryland also defeated the Deacons in the 2018 season opener.
LOOKING AHEAD
•The Demon Deacons round out tournament play on the road against Penn, Morehead State and West Virginia at the Mountaineer Classic.
