Women’s Tennis Sweeps Season-Openers

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest (2-0) opened the season with 7-0 sweeps over College of Charleston and Liberty at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Saturday.
The Deacons took control early, sweeping the doubles action against the Cougars. Peyton Pesavento and Alexis Franco led the charge with a 6-0 decision, while Emma Davis and Chandler Carter clinched the point, winning 6-2 on court one.
Davis cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win on court one to put Wake Forest on the board in singles play. Freshman Anna Brylin earned her first career dual match win, defeating Clara Errard in two sets, putting the Deacons up 3-0. Saby Nihalani clinched the match victory, walking away with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court three for her first dual match win of her collegiate career. Alexis Franco, Anna Ulyashchhenko and Peyton Pesavento all closed out the season-opener with a win.
In the afternoon matchup against Liberty, the Deacons got off to another strong start, winning across the board in doubles. Davis and Carter picked up a 6-2 decision, followed by No. 46 Brylin and Ulyashchenko with a 6-3 win and Omirou and MC Meredith with another 6-3 victory for Wake.
Carter picked up the first singles win on court six, defeating Anna Dollar 6-0, 6-2. Ulyashchenko followed with a straight set 6-0, 6-3 win and Brylin clinched with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court five. The Deacs played out their remaining matches where No. 44 Davis topped No. 64 Lara Soares 6-2, 6-4. Omirou won on a third-set tie-break and Nihalani capped the day with a 6-0, 7-5 victory against Ashley Bongart.
Up next, the Deacons will travel to Columbia, S.C. for the ITA Kick-off Weekend. Wake Forest will face Arizona State on Saturday at 2 p.m. and either South Carolina or California on Sunday.
