Deacs Advance to ITA Kick-Off Weekend Championship

COLUMBIA, S.C.- Wake Forest women's tennis improved to 3-0 on the season with a 4-0 shutout over Arizona State on Saturday in the first match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. With the win, Wake Forest advances to take on No. 14 South Carolina for a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle on Feb. 9.
Wake earned the early doubles point as Eliza Omirou and MC Meredith captured a 6-1 win on court two followed by Anna Brylin and Anna Ulyashchenko clinched the opening point with a 6-4 decision.
In singles play, Chandler Carter put the Deacons on the board, cruising past Samantha Alicea 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Saby Nihalani gave the Deacs a 3-0 lead, defeating Savannah Slaysman 6-4, 6-1 on court four.
Emma Davis clinched the win for Wake on court one, topping Lauryn John-Baptiste 6-2, 7-5.
Wake Forest will face No. 14 South Carolina in the championship match on Sunday at 2 p.m. A win on Sunday will send the Deacons to Seattle for the ITA National Indoor Championships next month.
