The Matchup
• The top-ranked Demon Deacons welcome BYU, Memphis and Old Dominion to the Wake Forest Tennis Center January 24-25 for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Wake Forest will take on BYU Friday at 5 p.m., which follows the 2 p.m. match between Memphis and Old Dominion.
• Friday's winners will meet for the championship Saturday at 5 while Friday's losers will play a consolation match at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
• The winner of this weekend's event will travel to Chicago February 15-18 for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Wake Forest is looking to defend its title at the event, as the Deacs claimed the first team indoor title in team history a year ago.
Chrysochos' Career
• Entering the spring season, senior Petros Chrysochos needed seven singles victories to become the program's all-time leader in career singles wins. Chrysochos is now at 115 career wins, four shy of tying former teammate Skander Mansouri who holds the record with 119. He currently has 114, tied for second all-time.
• In the fall, Chrysochos won the program's first-ever singles title at the ITA Fall Championships, topping USC's Daniel Cukierman in the finals. Chrysochos is believed to be the first men's player since Arizona State's Sargis Sargsian (1994-95) to win all three major DI titles (NCAA, ITA All-American, ITA Fall Championships) in a career.
Rookies Shine
• A pair of freshmen took to the courts last week for the Demon Deacons and shined in their first-career dual matches.
• Siddhant Banthia, a mid-year enrollee from India, went a perfect 3-0 in both singles and doubles. In his three singles matches, Banthia did not drop a set and never lost more than three games in a set.
• Melios Efstathiou, who shined in fall competition, posted a 2-1 singles record and a 3-0 doubles record. Efstathiou showed off his versatility, playing singles matches at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions.
• Banthia and Efstathiou teamed up for two of their three doubles wins, claiming a pair of 6-1 victory at the No. 3 doubles spots.
Next Time Out
• The Demon Deacons remain at home for their sixth consecutive match to face Oklahoma State on Sunday, February 3. First serve is set for 1 p.m. inside the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
• Wake Forest opens its season with eight of their first nine matches at home. Their lone road contest is a nonconference road trip to Virginia on February 8.
