Jaylen Hoard recorded his fifth double-double of the year

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Despite a double-double from Jaylen Hoard, Wake Forest (8-11, 1-6 ACC) fell to Boston College (11-7, 2-4 ACC) 65-61 on Saturday afternoon at the LJVM. The Eagles strung together a 9-0 run to cap the game for the comeback victory.

Hoard led all scorers with 22 points and added 10 boards for his fifth career double-double and Olivier Sarr set a career high with 11 rebounds.

Boston College used an 8-0 run to gain early momentum, but Wake cut the lead in half and used a triple from Michael Wynn to get within three. After trading baskets, the Deacons hit five straight from the field including a three from Hoard to trim the Eagles' lead to two, 20-18 with eight minutes remaining in the half. Wake continued to chip away at Boston College's lead as Hoard found Sarr for a dunk to knot the score at 27 all.

The Deacon defense held BC without a basket for nearly three minutes, giving Wake Forest the opportunity for the lead for the first time in the game.

A 9-0 run for Wake, led by Brandon Childress gave the Demon Deacons a six-point lead with under two minutes to play. Childress fed Isaiah Mucius under the basket and followed with a jumper for the four-point advantage with just two minutes on the clock in the first half. Childress drew the foul on the other end to head to the free throw line for two to cap the run. The Eagles pulled within four, but the Deacons took a 35-31 advantage into the break.

Hoard hit a three as the shot clock was winding down to open the second half scoring, putting the Deacs in front by seven. BC rallied back to tie the game, but a layup from Mucius and another triple from Wynn put the Deacons back on top.

The Eagles answered back and hit four-of-five from the field, including a three to tie the game 61-61 with just 2:25 on the clock. Sarr posted the first block of the game for the Deacons, draining the shot clock for the Eagles as Wake Forest regained a vital possession with 1:08 to play, but couldn't convert on the other end of the floor.

Ky Bowman connected on a three with one second on the shot clock to give Boston College a 64-61 advantage, its first lead since the opening half. The Eagles sealed the game with a free throw as the clock expired on the Deacons.

Wake Forest will be back in action at the LJVM on Wednesday night (Jan. 30) with an 8 p.m. matchup against Louisville.
