WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest track and field program is set to compete in the Camel City Classic at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem this weekend. The women's mile and men's weighted throw will get the meet started, Friday at 1:00 pm.
34 student-athletes, including 26 on the women's and eight on the men's side, will take center stage for Wake Forest. Both teams are seeking to build momentum after their solid team performance last weekend in the Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational.
The Camel City Classic marks a huge opportunity for senior Robert Heppenstall. If the Ontario, Canada native can clock in with a sub four-minute mile, he would be in contention for a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 8-9) in Birmingham, Ala.
The Demon Deacons have already claimed a couple of spots at the ACC Championships in Blacksburg, Va. Freshman Kane Aldrich secured his entry in the pole vault competition after an impressive showing in Clemson. Additionally, fellow freshman standout Zach Facioni wowed the crowd with his convincing win in the men's 3000m that should earn him a slot in the important fast heat at ACC's.
LAST TIME OUT | The Deacs won three overall event titles and earned 18 top-10 finishes at the Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational last weekend (Jan. 25-26).
