Boston College Tops Wake Forest, 3-1

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - After winning the opening set, Wake Forest volleyball (11-4, 1-3 ACC) fell to Boston College (13-4, 4-0 ACC), 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-16) on Sunday afternoon at Powers Gym.
Caitlyn Della led the way for the Deacs with 13 kills and a .524 hitting percentage, while freshman Peyton Suess recorded her sixth double-double of her career with 12 kills and 13 digs. Setter Madeline Holt also tallied a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Zoe Gonzales was a defensive force with a team-best six total blocks.
Wake Forest won the opening point and maintained the lead throughout the entire first set. The Deacs managed a team-high 16 kills and a .429 clip for the 25-20 victory to take an early 1-0 match lead.
Led by Clare Naughton with a career-best 19 kills, Boston College rallied back, taking the next three sets. The Eagles flipped the switch, taking an early lead in the second set and not allowing Wake to get out in front. The Deacs strung together a few runs, but BC took advantage of some Wake Forest miscues, evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-16 victory in the second set.
A late rally in the third set almost gave the Deacons the lead right back, but Boston College pulled out the narrow 25-23 decision. The Eagles clinched the match with a match-high .333 hitting percentage in the final frame. Both sides posted 12 kills, but BC managed just two errors on 30 attempts to hand the Eagles the 25-16 fourth-set victory and the match win.
Wake returns to Reynolds gym next weekend to host Notre Dame and Louisville, Oct. 11 and 13. First serve against Notre Dame is set for 6 p.m. and Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m.
