
North Carolina Sweeps Wake Forest Volleyball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina defeated Wake Forest volleyball in three sets on Sunday at Reynolds Gym. Senior Caitlyn Della and freshman Peyton Suess posted double-digit kill performances with 14 and 10, respectively, but 21 errors plagued the Deacons.
Freshman Parker Kwiatkowski dished out 33 assists and added two blocks while Caitlin Clarke notched 22 digs.
The Tar Heels (13-11, 10-4 ACC) used a .333 hitting percentage to take the first set 25-19 in an early back and forth affair. Wake Forest (11-14, 1-13 ACC) faced just a one-point deficit at 9-8 before a 4-0 run from North Carolina put the Tar Heels in front 13-8. The Deacs rallied back using a UNC error to get back within one, 16-15. North Carolina won three of the final four points to earn the 1-0 match lead.
Both sides struggled in the second set as Wake hit .021 and UNC hit .095. The Deacons and Tar Heels battled point for point early, but the Tar Heels gained the lead as 6-5 that they held on to for remainder of the set, despite Wake's efforts to tie the set. North Carolina finished the frame winning a challenge to take the stanza 25-20 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Tar Heels opened the third set with a 5-0 run, but kills from Caitlyn Della and Caroline Kuhn powered the Deacs to get within one, 7-6. Despite a few gritty runs for Wake Forest in the frame, North Carolina took the three-set victory with the 25-21 decision.
Wake Forest will return to Reynolds Gymnasium for the final two home matches of the season. The Deacs will face Virginia on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. and will finish the weekend on Sunday against Boston College for Senior Day.
