WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- A record setting night offensively powered Wake Forest to a 98-79 win over UNC Asheville on Wednesday night. Wake Forest shot 70.2 percent in the game, the second highest shooting percentage in program history. The Deacs were consistent throughout the contest, shooting above 70 percent in both halves for the first time ever. The last time Wake Forest shot over 60 percent in both halves was at Duke in 2009.

Wake Forest (2-1) dished out 23 assists, the most since recording 24 against Pitt in 2016.

Chaundee Brown and Olivier Sarr both tallied career-highs, leading the Deacs with 23 and 21 points, respectively. Brown notched his third double-double of his career adding 11 rebounds. The Orlando, Fla., native was also a perfect 11-11 from the line.

Sarr was perfect from the field shooting 9-9 and went 3-4 from the charity stripe. His 9-9 shooting is tied for the second-best shooting performance in Wake history, just one shy of Kyle Visser's 10-10 performance in 2006. Sarr also added a season-best eight rebounds.

Wake Forest started strong, scoring the most first half points since against Army in 2017-18. The Deacons shot 70 percent in the opening frame, connecting on 19-of-27. The last time Wake shot 70 percent or better in a half was against LSU in in 2016. The Deacs jumped out to a 17-7 lead after connecting on their first eight shots.

The Deacons strung together a 6-0 run in a minute span to take a 29-17 advantage with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half. The Bulldogs hit 3-of-3 with 4:27 to play, forcing Wake Forest to use a timeout as UNC Asheville cut the Deacs' lead to seven. Wake went nearly three minutes without a basket until a Brown jumper put Wake Forest up 42-35.

Asheville (1-2) pulled within two, but a triple from White gave the Deacs a 47-42 lead with just over one minute to play in the half. The Bulldogs answered back with two more points, but Childress found Sarr right under the basket to give Wake a 49-44 advantage as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Brown and White each posted early double figure scoring games as Brown scored 15 and White added 12 in the opening 20 minutes.

UNC Asheville battled back in the second half, pulling within one. Wake Forest took just two field goal attempts in the first five minutes out of the break but held on to their lead after hitting 8-of-11 from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs took advantage of a Wake Forest turnover tying the game at 72-all with under 10 minutes remaining in the game. The Deacons jumped back on top, but UNC Asheville stayed within one possession until the under-8 timeout.

Brown hit his career-high 23rd point with a pair of free throws to put the Deacs on top 79-73 with 7:54 to play in the game putting the momentum back on Wake's side.

The Deacs went on a 6-0 run and hit 8-of-10 shots heading into the final media timeout of the game, stretching their lead to 91-78. The Deacons held the Bulldogs without a field goal for over six minutes down the stretch and capped the game on a 13-1 run.

Brandon Childress hit his 1,000th career point to put Wake in front 96-79 with under a minute remaining in the game. He tied a career-high with nine assists with just five second left, finding Isaiah Mucius under the basket to give Wake the final 98-79 victory.

Wake Forest returns to action on the road with back-to-back games in Charlotte. Wake will face the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday, Nov. 17, before taking on Davidson on Fri. Nov. 22 at the Spectrum Center.
