Happy Holidays Deacon Nation!

Today is moving day for the Deacons! Our football team plane is touching down in New York this afternoon as the 2019 Big Four Champs get ready for a fourth straight bowl game. Assistant AD for football operations Jordan Jarry and football equipment manager Brian Daniels and their staff have been working tirelessly to plan all the logistics for 106 student-athletes, coaches, support staff and families to spend the next five days in New York City. You may have seen the Demon Deacon football truck heading north on I-95 yesterday!

Speaking of moving, the response of Deacon Nation to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl has been tremendous. We expect between 8000 & 10,000 Deacon fans in attendance for the game, the Wake Forest pre-game tailgate party at Billy's Sports Bar is completely sold out with nearly 2,000 fans signed up to attend, and we'll have the biggest Wake Forest student bowl attendance since the 2006 Orange Bowl! The New Era Pinstripe Bowl has come close to 4 million ESPN viewers each of the last two years and I'm excited for our program and its record 14 All-ACC performers — second most in the ACC — to get the national exposure they deserve. You still have time to surprise your family and friends with a quick trip by plane, train or automobile into the Big Apple for all the fun! We have a few good seats left in our allotment so get yours today! Click on Wake Forest Bowl Central for all the information!

A special thank you is due to everyone who donated money or tickets to help support the bowl game experience for Wake Forest students and ensure a strong Black & Gold scene in Yankee Stadium. Demon Deacon fans generously donated nearly $170,000 worth of tickets which will go to students as well as members of the military, New York first responders and New York area charitable organizations.

The Currie family will be hopping on the D(eacon) train of New York's famous subway system to head up to Yankee Stadium for the 3:20 PM Friday kick-off. Remember to use #NYCDeacs on your social posts, tweets and stories to show the world how much fun it is when the Deacons take Manhattan!

Deacs Welcome 18 Newcomers on National Signing Day
Coach Clawson and his staff continue to hit the recruiting trail hard, capitalizing on the momentum brought by four straight winning seasons and now welcome 18 future Deacs who signed National Letters of Intent — all inking their letters before 8 a.m.! It was fun to follow along on Twitter and see all the cool graphics from @WakeFB announcing each new signee.

Just In Time for Christmas — Deacon Tickets are the Gift That Keeps On Giving
For those of you who will be joining me in starting and finishing your Christmas shopping over the next 36 hours, I encourage you to check out the excellent stocking stuffers from the Wake Forest Ticket Office. We have customizable five- and seven-game basketball ticket packages as well as single-game tickets featuring matchups against the defending national champion Cavaliers, and Big Four rivals Duke and North Carolina. We're also offering 2020 football season tickets, a special "4 for $49" deal for the Villanova game, and tickets to see the Deacs host Notre Dame at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Sept. 26.

Coming off a school record six home wins at BB&T Field this season, our 2020 home schedule opens with 2019 Sun Belt Champion Appalachian State on Sept. 11, followed by Villanova on Sept. 19.  Dates for our home contests with Boston College, Miami, Syracuse and 2019 ACC Champion Clemson will be announced in late January.

Our goal of offering the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina includes making the state's best football program as accessible to all fans as possible. Season tickets start at just $20 per game, and you can also take advantage of an interest-free seven-month payment plan. Fans can also utilize the payment plan for tickets for the Notre Dame game in Charlotte.

Muuss Leading Elite Soccer Program
Despite an early deficit, a driving rain and water-logged field, Coach Bobby Muuss and our squad battled down to the last second in our 2-1 loss to Virginia in the NCAA semifinals December 13th in Cary. I was really proud to be there in my rain-suit amongst a boisterous crowd of Wake Forest soccer faithful for our sixth College Cup appearance. Competing in the strongest soccer conference in the country, the Deacs defeated seven top 25 opponents and made the Round of Eight for the fourth time in five years, while Spry Stadium was home to the NCAA total season attendance champions! Coach Muuss has built a championship culture, as evidenced by this beautiful letter, penned by senior captain Bruno Lapa!

Women' Basketball Beats the Gators for Third Straight Win, Miami up Next
Meanwhile, down at the West Palm Invitational, women's basketball closed out non-conference play claiming two more victories. In an impressive, gritty 73-68 win over Florida, the Deacs overcame an eight point deficit in the third with a 16-0 run, and as Florida climbed within one with in the fourth, junior Gina Conti made a layup, stole the ball from the Gators and ran the length of the floor for a 71-66 lead. Earlier in the week, Lawrence Joel Veteran's Coliseum was rocking with screaming kids for the Deacs win over Campbell in the annual School Day game. The crowd of 9,121 was the third-largest home crowd in Wake Forest women's basketball history. After winning four of our last five games, we close out 2019 at Miami on Dec. 29 and start off 2020 at Duke on January 2 before coming back home for a matchup with Georgia Tech on January 5.

Men's Basketball Closes Out 2019 On a Winning Note
Following a thrilling win over No. 23 Xavier in the Skip Prosser Classic, men's basketball claimed a 76-64 victory over North Carolina A&T on Saturday. The Deacs are now enjoying a 14 day break before returning to ACC play to take on Pitt on the road on January 4. Tip off is set for noon on RSN (Fox Sports Carolina).

Two Deacon Legends on 2020 Naismith Hall of Fame Ballot
It's exciting to see two of our all-time greats, Muggsy Bogues ('87) and Tim Duncan ('97) among the 50 nominees for the Class of 2020 of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. A press conference announcing the Finalists will be held during NBA All-Star Weekend, which is scheduled for Friday, February 14th in Chicago, and the entire Class of 2020 will be unveiled during the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta, in early April. I can't think of two more deserving candidates, both of whom make us all proud to be Demon Deacons!

For our family and our Deacon Family, 2019 has been a special year. We thank you for your loyal support and look forward to celebrating many wins with you in 2020. Mary Lawrence and I wish you and yours a safe and peaceful holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Go Deacs!
