MONTGOMERY, ALA. – Wake Forest women's tennis (8-1) picked up its sixth shutout of the early season with a 4-0 sweep over Yale (4-3) in the opening match of the annual Blue Gray Classic.

The Deacs won the early doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The 45th-ranked duo Emma Davis and Chandler Carter defeated 52nd-ranked Samantha Martinelli and Jessie Gong 6-1. Eliza Omirou and MC Meredith clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court two.

In singles action, No. 40 Davis cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win on court one, her 97th career singles victory. Freshman Peyton Pesavento earned a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six as the Deacons took a 3-0 advantage in the match. Eliza Omirou rounded out the win on the third court, defeating Gong, 6-0, 6-3.

The Deacons move on to face the No. 2 seed Illinois. The doubles matches will be played on Friday at 4:30, while singles will be played on Saturday.
