Lindsey Jarosinski scored a career-high 11 points in the 55-44 defeat to Duke
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In a tightly contested contest Sunday (Feb. 24) afternoon, the Wake Forest women's basketball team dropped a 55-44 decision to Duke inside the LJVM Coliseum.
Lindsey Jarosinski had her best game as a Demon Deacon (10-17, 1-13 ACC), finishing with career-highs in points (11), rebounds (7), field goals (5), minutes (29) and connected on her first-ever three-point attempt. The freshman was joined in double figures by Ivana Raca who finished with a team-high 12 points and added seven rebounds.
Despite an off day of shooting, junior Alex Sharp hauled in 12 rebounds for the Deacs, who out-rebounded Duke (12-14, 4-10 ACC), 46-33.
After the Blue Devils jumped out to a 10-point lead late in the opening quarter, the Deacs hung close, keeping the game within striking distance for the rest of the opening half. Wake Forest kept Duke scoreless for a six-minute stretch during the second quarter, trimming the Blue Devil lead to three. Sharp and Raca connected on back-to-back layups to help kickstart the run.
Duke pushed the advantage back to 10 midway through the third quarter before Wake Forest answered back with seven unanswered points. Jarosinski had consecutive layups to get the run going before drawing a charge on Duke's next possession. Gina Conti added a free throw before Maya Banks capped the run with another layup.
The three-point deficit was the closest the Deacs would get for the remainder of the game, as Duke matched Wake Forest shot-for-shot before eventually closing out the 11-point victory.
The Demon Deacons close out the home portion of their regular season schedule on Thursday, February 28, against Pittsburgh. Prior to the game the Deacs will honor seniors Elisa Penna and Ariel Stephenson, who is taking a medical redshirt this year. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside the LJVM Coliseum.
